ICT Design Engineer, DC Design Engineering

Develop scalable fiber-optic and copper cabling, pathway, and equipment designs, along with construction and permitting specifications for data centers. Review and approve ICT submittals, address risks, evaluate emerging technologies, and coordinate project reviews with onsite teams and contractors.

Responsibilities

• Work with engineers and managers across AWS to develop physical‑layer solutions for pathways, spaces and cabling.
• Develop detailed designs and specifications for fiber‑optic and copper plant construction and permitting.
• Engage with industry suppliers and manufacturers to define product requirements and explore emerging technologies.
• Ensure timely delivery of scalable designs and specifications for ICT pathways, cabling and equipment.
• Review and approve ICT pathway, cabling and equipment submittals.
• Identify and respond rapidly to high‑priority risks and issues.
• Support new technology and design activities that improve infrastructure quality, reduce cost and installation time.
• Travel 20%+ to review projects and coordinate with onsite personnel and contractors at AWS data centres.
• Provide creative, out‑of‑the‑box solutions to design challenges.

Requirements

• 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering experience in mission‑critical facilities such as data centres, power generation, or oil and gas.
• 4+ years of commissioning experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data centre equipment and facilities.
• Ability to read, interpret, and create construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
