Data Center Project Architect, Design Engineering

The Data Center Architect will manage a portfolio of data center designs, including the development of prototype designs and template specifications for architectural, civil, and structural elements. They will also lead initiatives to improve cost, quality, and schedule while coordinating with internal and external engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with design and engineering professionals on concept development and project execution
• Manage a portfolio of data center designs and feature sets
• Develop and maintain Basis of Design, prototype designs, and template specifications for architectural, civil, and structural elements
• Create architectural/civil/structural design RFPs and manage external design consultants
• Coordinate with internal and external MEP design engineers
• Lead initiatives to improve cost, quality, schedule, and design consistency
• Handle multiple data center build and capital improvement projects simultaneously
• Travel for site assessments, consultant selection, design meetings, construction reviews, and interaction with authorities and building owners (up to 25% travel)
• Perform and present business case analyses
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members

Requirements

• 6+ years of data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience
• 6+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission‑critical facilities
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field
• Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment
• Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment and facilities
• Professional Engineering or Architectural License (preferred)
• Knowledge of regional building codes and regulations (preferred)
• Ability to read, interpret, and create construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents
