Design Manager

The Design Manager will lead design management and quality assurance for hyperscale data centre projects in Australia, acting as the primary technical authority. They are responsible for auditing design deliverables, chairing technical forums, and engaging external consultants to ensure best-in-class design practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead design management and drive designs to the desired outcome
• Review and QA/QC all design project deliverables for compliance with Zerra standards and Australian codes
• Audit designs to identify inconsistencies, discrepancies and missing information and track close‑out of observations
• Serve as Subject Matter Expert in design reviews and respond to design escalations
• Chair regular Australia Design Team knowledge‑share meetings and technical discussions
• Participate in selection and annual performance review of consultants
• Enforce use of Zerra standards and templates, adapting them to Australian codes and standards
• Engage external consultants to implement best‑in‑class design processes
• Identify quality and latent‑defect issues and manage design development for resolution
• Offer product (vendor and digital) improvements and lead design initiatives to lower cost

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a CSA or MEPH engineering discipline or equivalent experience
• Chartered status with Engineers Australia (CPEng) and registration on the National Engineering Register (NER) preferred
• 10+ years of design or design‑management experience, including data centre or large‑scale industrial projects
• Working knowledge of Australian codes and standards (NCC/BCA, AS/NZS series, AER/AEMO, EPBC Act, etc.)
• Strong commercial awareness of the Australian construction market and vendor landscape
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills
• Willingness to travel domestically across project sites
