Principal UX Designer

Own and evolve the universityâs Figma-based web design system, including tokenization, accessibility, and alignment between design and production. Plan usability research, support journey mapping and conversion optimization, introduce efficient AI-assisted workflows, and direct freelance designers in collaboration with development, marketing, and content teams.
Responsibilities
- Own and evolve the universityâs web design system in Figma, including components, patterns, usage guidelines, and documentation
- Lead tokenization of the design system to create a scalable, consistent foundation
- Partner with web development to keep design and production in sync
- Identify and resolve usability issues across web properties
- Ensure all web experiences meet accessibility standards (WCAGâŻ2.1âŻAA, ADA/SectionâŻ508)
- Plan, run, and synthesize usability testing using tools such as Userlytics
- Translate research findings into prioritized design recommendations
- Contribute to audience journey mapping and conversion rate optimization efforts
- Evaluate and introduce AIâassisted design tools to increase team capacity and speed
- Direct freelance designers, delegating tasks, prioritizing work, and reviewing output for quality and consistency
- Plan and manage design work in agile sprints in coordination with the web development team
Requirements
- Bachelorâs degree in UX design, HCI, interaction design, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Minimum 7 years of UX or product design experience
- Handsâon ownership of a design system
- Proven experience building and maintaining design systems in Figma, including component libraries and tokenization
- Experience planning and conducting usability testing with tools such as Userlytics
- Knowledge of journey mapping and conversion rate optimization
- Strong understanding of web accessibility standards (WCAGâŻ2.1âŻAA, ADA/SectionâŻ508)
- Experience adopting AIâassisted design tools
- Ability to collaborate closely with web development teams in agile sprints
- Experience directing freelance or contract designers
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
