Technical UI Designer (Game Industry)

Contract

You will implement scalable and performant UI systems in Unreal Engine by bridging the gap between design and engineering. This involves architecting reusable components, managing data-driven UI logic, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality player experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Break features and wireframes into scoped implementation tasks and identify dependencies
  • Build and maintain UI in Unreal Engine using UMG and Widget Blueprints
  • Create UI logic with Blueprint scripting and implement data‑driven UI via ViewModels
  • Architect reusable component systems that stay flexible as designs evolve
  • Ensure UI works across different screen sizes, safe areas, localization, and accessibility requirements
  • Design controller‑first navigation while supporting multiple input methods and platforms
  • Profile and optimize UI performance, investigating hitches with engineering as needed
  • Collaborate closely with UX, UI Art, Engineering, and Production throughout feature development
  • Improve workflows, pipelines, documentation, and implementation practices
  • Advocate for the player experience while respecting technical constraints

Requirements

  • Professional experience implementing UI in Unreal Engine and UMG
  • Strong understanding of MVVM, ViewModels, and data binding
  • Working knowledge of C++ fundamentals and data types
  • Proficiency in Blueprint scripting and Widget Blueprints
  • Experience with responsive UI, localization, accessibility, and multi‑platform scaling
  • Ability to profile UI performance and understand runtime costs of UMG, Slate, textures, etc.
  • Strong cross‑functional communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience with Figma or similar prototyping tools (optional but beneficial)
  • Experience shipping UI on PC; console or mobile experience a plus
