Head of Design, Product Design

Lead and mentor the design team while remaining hands-on in product design, owning retail mobile experiences and the design system. Represent design in strategy and roadmap decisions, improve cross-functional UX practices, and establish scalable systems and processes that raise product quality.

Responsibilities

• Manage and mentor a small senior design team while contributing ~50% individual contribution work
• Own and evolve the design system, including token libraries, component patterns, governance, and adoption
• Partner with product, engineering, and data teams to set direction, validate decisions through research, and ensure AI‑assisted outputs meet quality standards
• Lead discovery work in Figma, conduct spec reviews, and participate in early‑stage product strategy discussions
• Establish and enforce processes for critique, documentation, design review, and clean handoffs with engineering
• Represent design in strategy, roadmap, and architecture conversations, advocating for user‑centric solutions
• Drive systems thinking across the organization, shaping long‑term roadmaps with product managers
• Provide feedback, set craft standards, and help designers progress to the next level
• Engage with external stakeholders, clients, and partners to showcase BitGo’s design capabilities

Requirements

• Experience leading design in financial services, digital assets, or similarly complex technical domains
• Proven track record building and owning design systems at scale
• Hands‑on expertise in Figma and high‑craft visual design
• Strong product thinking, logical reasoning, and data‑driven decision making
• Management experience with senior designers and ability to mentor and improve team performance
• Technical literacy to understand APIs, data models, and engineering trade‑offs
• Direct communication skills for interaction with CPO, engineering leads, and clients
• Comfort with high‑stakes, compliance‑heavy environments (preferred)
• Experience with complex permissioning, approval workflows, or multi‑entity account structures (optional)
• Background in design leadership during a similar product‑design transformation (optional)
