Mechanical Design Engineer, Data Center Design Engineering

The engineer will lead the design and continuous innovation of mechanical distribution systems for data centers, taking projects from concept through construction and commissioning. They will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure designs meet quality, budget, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Work with internal teams to understand user requirements and develop data center mechanical designs
• Collaborate with other disciplines to create construction document sets
• Design systems that meet quality requirements and stay within budget constraints
• Specify appropriate mechanical equipment with regional vendors and manufacturers
• Coordinate with local utilities to define site utility requirements
• Ensure compliance with city/county regulations and building codes
• Review and approve equipment submittals
• Define project scopes and provide technical support during construction phases
• Collaborate with commissioning teams to validate installation, operation, and performance
• Manage concurrent projects across multiple geographic regions and travel to sites as needed

Requirements

• Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment and facilities
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
• Industrial or commercial engineering experience in mission‑critical facilities such as data centers, power generation, or oil and gas
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with at least 4 years of relevant experience
• 6+ years of engineering design or construction experience covering hydronics, air‑side duct, and plumbing design
• Knowledge of building codes and regional regulations (preferred)
• Professional Engineer (PE) license (preferred)
• Ability to carry design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment
