Sr. Design Engineering Manager

Lead and develop a team of design engineers while designing and optimizing plastic components and products for functionality, manufacturability, quality, and cost-effectiveness. Oversee CAD modeling, prototyping, material selection, design documentation, and collaboration with manufacturing and other cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities
- Conceptualize, design, and develop plastic components and products meeting functional, aesthetic, manufacturability, and cost requirements
- Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks or CATIA
- Oversee prototyping, select appropriate materials, collaborate with prototype technicians, and validate fit, form, and function
- Evaluate and select plastic materials based on performance, environmental, and cost considerations
- Optimize designs for efficiency, performance, and cost reduction through analysis, simulation, and testing
- Collaborate with manufacturing to ensure designs are suited for injection molding, extrusion, and thermoforming processes
- Work with quality assurance to establish and maintain quality standards and regulatory compliance
- Prepare and maintain comprehensive design documentation, including drawings, specifications, and change records
- Coordinate with product management, manufacturing, quality, and procurement to meet project goals and deadlines
- Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices, integrating innovative solutions into product development
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical or plastics engineering
- 7+ years experience designing plastic injectionâmolded products
- Handsâon injection molding experience (a plus)
- Proficiency with SolidWorks (and familiarity with CATIA)
- Experience with prototyping techniques and rapid iteration
- Strong problemâsolving and attention to detail
- Effective communication and collaboration in crossâfunctional teams
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Leadership experience managing a team of design engineers
