Mechanical Project Engineer, Design Engineering Quality

Own mechanical design and delivery for automated fulfillment projects, including conveyor layouts, equipment selection, 3D models, calculations, installation packages, and field support. Review and approve engineering work, resolve design and installation issues, and mentor junior engineers to ensure project quality, safety, and timely delivery.

Responsibilities

• Own and develop subsystem layouts for automated material handling systems
• Select and specify conveyors, third‑party equipment, and systems
• Coordinate with electrical, controls, and structural engineers for integrated designs
• Deliver complete 3D models and manage clash detection
• Execute mechanical engineering deliverables, schedules, and quality standards
• Resolve layout conflicts with construction teams and oversee installation
• Lead on‑site communication and decision‑making during field issues
• Produce installation packages and monitor engineering team progress
• Perform and validate system/component calculations (throughput, motor power, loads)
• Engineer custom parts for non‑standard applications
• Mentor and review work of junior engineers, providing technical guidance
• Ensure designs meet safety, regulatory, and performance standards
• Identify and resolve design issues proactively
• Document engineering decisions and create clear installation instructions

Requirements

• 2+ years of Amazon experience or similar fast‑paced environment
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
• Experience with material handling equipment (MHE)
• Proficiency with CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit, BIM 360, etc.)
• Clear communication with leadership and cross‑functional teams
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Knowledge of system architecture, optimization, reliability analysis (preferred)
• Lean process improvement experience (preferred)
• Familiarity with safety and egress standards such as IBC and ANSI B11.19 (preferred)
