Mechanical Project Engineer, Design Engineering Quality

The Mechanical Project Engineer will own and execute the mechanical design of automated fulfillment center projects from concept through installation. They are responsible for providing technical oversight, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring all designs meet safety and performance standards.
Responsibilities
- Own and develop subsystem layouts for automated material handling systems
- Select and specify conveyors, thirdâparty equipment, and related systems
- Coordinate mechanical designs with electrical, controls, and structural engineers
- Deliver 3D models, manage clash detection, and produce 2D installation drawings
- Lead communication with onâsite construction teams and resolve field issues
- Perform system and component calculations (throughput, motor power, belt pull, structural loads)
- Mentor and guide junior engineers on design standards and problemâsolving
- Review and approve engineering calculations and equipment orders
- Ensure designs meet safety, regulatory, and performance standards
- Document engineering decisions and create complete installation packages
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- 7+ years of experience in mechanical design/engineering, preferably in material handling systems
- Experience with CAD software such as AutoCAD, Revit, BIM 360
- Knowledge of conveyor systems, material handling equipment, and safety regulations (IBC, ANSI)
- Strong communication skills for leadership and crossâfunctional collaboration
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Experience mentoring junior engineers
- Familiarity with Lean methodology and process improvement
