Senior Design Manager

The Senior Design Manager will provide strategic leadership for design functions on complex construction projects from tender to completion. They are responsible for managing consultants, driving design excellence, and ensuring projects meet commercial, safety, and compliance objectives.
Responsibilities
- Provide senior design leadership across projects ranging £2m–£40m, from tender to completion
- Develop and implement innovative, buildable design strategies aligned with programme and commercial goals
- Drive design governance, risk management and value engineering
- Lead design workshops, resolve technical challenges and guide decision‑making
- Support business growth through bid preparation, technical submissions and proposal development
- Mentor and develop Design Managers, Coordinators and broader project teams
Requirements
- Extensive experience leading multidisciplinary design teams on complex construction projects
- Strong knowledge of procurement routes and construction regulations (CDM, Building Regulations)
- Proven leadership, communication and stakeholder management abilities
- Degree or HNC in a construction‑related discipline (desirable)
- Professional membership (CIOB or similar) advantageous
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, document management platforms and planning software (Powerproject or TeamPlan)
- Valid CSCS card and driving licence
