Mechanical Project Engineer, Project Execution, Design Engineering Quality

The Mechanical Project Engineer will own and execute the mechanical design of automated fulfillment center projects from concept through installation. They are responsible for providing technical oversight, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring all designs meet safety and performance standards.

Responsibilities

• Develop subsystem layouts for automated material handling systems with minimal oversight
• Select and specify conveyors, third‑party equipment, and systems to meet project requirements
• Coordinate with electrical, controls, and structural engineers for integrated designs
• Deliver complete 3D models, clash detection, and installation packages
• Lead communication with on‑site construction teams and resolve field issues
• Mentor and review work of junior engineers, assigning tasks based on skill level
• Perform system and component calculations (throughput, motor power, loads)
• Ensure designs meet safety, regulatory, and performance standards
• Drive continuous improvement and document engineering decisions

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
• Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical design for material handling systems
• Proficiency with CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit, BIM 360, etc.)
• Experience selecting and specifying conveyors and third‑party equipment
• Ability to produce 3D models, clash detection, and detailed 2D drawings
• Strong communication skills with leadership, stakeholders, and cross‑functional teams
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and providing technical guidance
• Knowledge of safety, regulatory, and ergonomic standards (IBC, ANSI)
• Experience with Lean methodologies and design‑in‑safety
