Architect Senior – Design Manager - Labs

The Architect Senior acts as the owner’s Design Manager for lab and research projects, overseeing planning, architectural layouts, and technical specifications. They manage multidisciplinary teams to ensure compliance with building codes, safety standards, and project budgets.
Responsibilities
- Manage multidisciplinary design and construction teams to ensure code compliance and alignment with user needs and budgets
- Develop and oversee architectural layouts, technical specifications, and detailed construction documents for labs and research spaces
- Coordinate permitting, regulatory approvals, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
- Develop and manage project scope, schedule, and budget through design phases
- Provide technical oversight and review of consulting architects and construction managers
- Supervise subordinate staff and ensure adherence to university policies and sustainability programs
- Facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration with landscape architects, historic preservation, and environmental graphics teams
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in architecture or related field
- At least 8 years of experience designing complex laboratory and research facilities
- Registered Architect in Arizona or NCARB certification (must obtain registration within 6 months)
- Strong knowledge of building codes, lab safety codes, and accessibility requirements
- Experience with construction administration, field observations, and cost estimating
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam Revu, SketchUp, and PMIS
- Ability to manage multidisciplinary A/E and construction teams
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
