Software Engineer, Design Systems
Whatnot Remote (🇺🇸 United States of America)
Build and evolve design system components across iOS, Android, and web platforms to ensure consistent, accessible, and high-craft UI. Collaborate with product designers to manage design token architecture and develop tooling that keeps design and engineering in sync.
Responsibilities
- Build and evolve Whatnot Design System components for iOS, Android, and web
- Own and extend design token architecture and automated pipelines from Figma to code
- Partner daily with product designers to review specs, flag gaps, and develop tooling (Figma plugins, code‑connect, component playgrounds)
- Ensure high‑quality, accessible UI through testing, telemetry, and AI‑assisted workflows
- Maintain documentation and support component adoption across engineering teams
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience building user‑facing products
- Experience shipping production UI on at least two of: iOS (Swift/SwiftUI), Android (Kotlin/Compose), web (React/TypeScript)
- Hands‑on experience with design systems, component libraries, and design token pipelines
- Strong collaboration skills with product designers; fluent in Figma
- Expertise in accessibility, theming, dark mode, internationalization/RTL, and UI testing
