Head of Design Engineering (w/m/d)

The Head of Design Engineering is responsible for the strategic leadership and technical management of the engineering department, including personnel oversight and resource planning. They ensure technical excellence, compliance with GMP and HSEQ standards, and the successful execution of complex EPC/EPCM projects.
Responsibilities
- Overall responsibility for engineering department, including technical and disciplinary leadership
- Develop and implement engineering strategy aligned with corporate goals
- Coordinate interfaces with project management, procurement, manufacturing, construction and commissioning
- Ensure compliance with quality, cost, schedule and regulatory (GMP, HSEQ) requirements
- Advance engineering standards, governance, processes and best practices
- Promote standardisation, modularisation and digital engineering initiatives
- Manage resources, capacity, competence, personnel development and succession planning
- Support sales and business development in proposal, concept and acquisition phases
- Provide technical leadership for EPC/EPCM project execution
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation and cross‑functional collaboration
Requirements
- University degree in chemical, mechanical, process engineering or related field
- Multiple years of leadership experience in engineering organizations
- Deep expertise in pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical process and plant engineering
- Knowledge of pure water systems and GMP/HSEQ requirements
- Strong strategic leadership, communication, and change‑management skills
- Fluent in German and English, both written and spoken
- Experience with digital engineering, standardisation and modularisation initiatives
