Head of Design
Beroepsorganisatie Nederlandse Ontwerpers (bno) 🇳🇱 Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands
Translate client briefs into creative visions and lead the design process from concept and storytelling to final realization. Direct multidisciplinary teams of designers and specialists while ensuring a consistent and compelling user experience.
Responsibilities
- Translate client briefs and ideas into creative vision, experience concept and design approach
- Creatively lead multiple projects simultaneously and safeguard quality from concept to delivery
- Direct the design process, including storytelling, storyboarding, visual design, animation and final experience
- Brief and provide constructive feedback to designers, 2D/3D specialists and animators
- Ensure storytelling, space, interaction, visual design, animation and technology form a consistent, compelling experience
- Present concepts and design decisions clearly to clients, partners and internal stakeholders
- Collaborate closely with software, engineering, project management and external makers to realize creative ideas
- Balance creative ambition with technical feasibility, planning and budget, managing day‑to‑day creative decisions
- Help the team grow and contribute to design standards, processes and creative signature
Requirements
- Extensive senior‑level experience as Head of Design, Design Director, Creative Lead, Art Director or Senior Experience Designer
- Strong portfolio demonstrating conceptual and visual excellence
- Ability to lead creative projects and multidisciplinary teams
- Experience managing multiple projects, deadlines, and stakeholders
- Excellent storytelling, art direction, interaction design, and spatial experience skills
- Good understanding of 2D, 3D and motion design to guide specialists
- Capability to align creative ambition with planning, budget and technical feasibility
- Strong presentation and communication skills in Dutch and English
- Positive, direct, collaborative attitude
- Availability 32‑40 hours per week
- Experience with experience centres, exhibitions, branded environments or audiovisual productions is a plus
