The Student Web Designer is responsible for managing and updating the MLLL website, ensuring content is visually consistent and user-friendly. This role also involves providing technical support to faculty and staff and assisting with daily operations of the Language Learning Center.

Responsibilities

  • Complete CMS training (OU Campus / Modern Campus) and maintain active certification
  • Manage and update content across MLLL website pages: news, events, faculty profiles, course listings, departmental announcements, and LLC information
  • Ensure all published content follows OU brand guidelines โ€” correct color palette, typography, image standards, and accessibility requirements
  • Coordinate with faculty and staff to gather content updates and publish them accurately and on time
  • Proactively identify outdated, broken, or poorly structured pages and recommend improvements
  • Monitor and maintain proper web-flow: navigation structure, internal linking, and page hierarchy across the MLLL site
  • Apply UI/UX principles to CMS page layouts โ€” not just placing components, but thinking about how users will read, navigate, and experience each page
  • Use available CMS components creatively and strategically to produce pages that are visually engaging and easy to use
  • Design and maintain visual assets for the website: banners, headers, thumbnail images, and featured graphics
  • Evaluate page aesthetics regularly and propose design improvements that reflect the departmentโ€™s identity and standards
  • Ensure mobile responsiveness and accessibility compliance on all maintained pages
  • Collaborate with the Design Artist and Social Media Strategist to ensure visual consistency across the website, print, and social platforms
  • Assist faculty and staff with everyday computer issues on both Mac and Windows systems
  • Help faculty submit content requests, upload materials, and navigate shared platforms and tools
  • Respond promptly to technical support tickets and web content requests โ€” turnaround time and clear communication are a priority in this role
  • Assist with AV setup, digital displays, and any other technology needs as directed by the LLC Manager
  • Assist students with language placement tests and assessment procedures
  • Respond to placement-related emails and direct student inquiries to appropriate resources
  • Maintain and monitor LLC lab computers โ€” ensure all systems are up to date, running correctly, and free of performance issues
  • Maintain a clean, welcoming, and professional atmosphere in the LLC space
  • Work collaboratively with LLC staff and student team members on larger departmental projects
  • Manage reservations of communal spaces (Rooms 229 & 230) as needed

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled in the Fall 2026 Term as an undergraduate student in good standing at the University of Oklahoma
  • Ability to speak, read, and write clear, concise English
  • Highly organized; able to manage multiple content requests and deadlines simultaneously
  • Strong initiative โ€” proactively identifies web issues and improvement opportunities without being asked
  • Quick to respond and communicate โ€” faculty and staff rely on this role for timely updates and support
  • Detail-oriented for accuracy of data, content, and visual presentation
  • Able to work collaboratively within a small, interdepartmental team
  • Customer service orientation

Key Skills

CMS platform (OU Campus / Modern Campus, WordPress, Squarespace, Wix, or similar) UI/UX design principles โ€” layout, visual hierarchy, whitespace, typography, and user flow Design tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Canva, Adobe Photoshop, or similar Basic knowledge of HTML and CSS (not required, but helpful for understanding CMS component structure) Comfortable working on both Mac and Windows systems and troubleshooting common issues on each Familiarity with OU brand guidelines or experience working within institutional brand standards Knowledge of web accessibility standards (WCAG) and mobile-responsive design Prior experience creating or maintaining a website, even personally or for a student organization Familiarity with languages other than English (not required, but valued in a multilingual department environment) Prior customer service or student-facing work experience Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously Familiarity with design principles and visual storytelling Experience with multimedia and digital media
