Design Technologist (PWU)
Alectra Utilities 🇨🇦 Vaughan, Ontario, Canada
Create detailed overhead and underground system designs and estimates while ensuring compliance with utility standards and regulations. Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including municipalities and contractors, to manage project scope, budgets, and permits.
Responsibilities
- Create detailed designs of overhead and underground systems including customer services that incorporate best utility practices in accordance with numerous applicable standards, laws, codes and regulations to deliver power in a safe, cost effective and reliable manner
- Perform required calculations and prepare detailed schematics for proposed projects involving system expansion and rebuilds
- Liaise with Right of Way (ROW) Authorities, Utility Agencies, Permitting Authorities, Contractors, and Project Owners related to the design and construction of projects
- Interdepartmental liaison and project co-ordination with other utilities and authorities to process/secure permits, agreements, etc
- Communicate and provide technical support and guidance to municipalities, developers, contractors, electrical/civil consultants, architects, field supervisors, government agencies and customers to ensure work co-ordination and compliance with specifications, policies, standards, procedures and practices
Requirements
- Completion of a 3-year Engineering Technology program
- Eligible for OACETT registration
- Minimum five (5) years related experience
- Advanced skills in the use of computer software programs for CAD, GIS, non-linier strength analysis, cable pulling, transformer loading, document management system, work order management system, customer information system, word processing, spreadsheet and presentation applications
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong commitment to providing customer service
- Flexible attitude toward work assignment
- Demonstrated ability to solve moderately complex problems
- Valid class G driver’s license
