Instrumentation & Controls Design Engineering Manager

The role involves overseeing an engineering unit, directing projects, and ensuring quality standards. Responsibilities include business development, staff development, and organizational support.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the focal point for initial unit contact to Management, Project Managers (PM) and other internal constituents
• Define the scope of work for work proposals
• Direct/assign work to the unit to balance activities between work groups
• Maintain responsibility for the unit's quality and establish and enforce quality standards for the unit
• Accept unit's responsibility of budget and schedule for assigned projects
• Assign unit's Responsible Engineers (RE) and provide recommendation to the Client Engineering Manager of Lead Responsible Engineer (LRE) for unit led projects
• Responsible for the approval of engineering documents produced by the unit
• Certify design documents as required by state and local client and code requirements
• Lead proposal preparation with input for scope and budget to PMs
• Develop professional relationships with client counterparts
• Assist in marketing the unit's expertise and abilities to clients
• Identify and promote opportunities for site work
• Identify and promote training opportunities
• Utilize the review/approval process of deliverables as a technical training opportunity for staff
• Provide timely and appropriate performance feedback and coaching
• Promote professional development
• Support company policies and procedures
• Demonstrate technical leadership, providing resolution to technical issues either through own knowledge or by coordination with Subject Matter Experts
• Support the Client Engineering Manager in maintaining, updating, and executing Continuous Improvement Plans
• Supervise an Engineering Unit, discipline-specific, comprised of work group lead engineers and engineering staff
• Responsible for the assignment of engineering resources to projects
• Maintain short and long-range staffing projections based on work projections
• Approve timesheets and expense reports of direct reports
• Conduct unit's annual performance appraisals
• Support management in recruiting new employees
• Meet applied time goals set for position/division/discipline

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited university
• Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience including experience supporting the nuclear power industry
• 2+ years of leadership experience for Manager role
• PE License is required
• Ability to gain and maintain unescorted access at nuclear sites
• Experience working in a Nuclear Power Plant environment and familiarity with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) governing codes
• Excellent verbal communication skills
• Strong technical writing skills and attention to detail
• Strong coordination and team building skills
