Instrumentation & Controls Design Engineering Manager

The role involves overseeing an engineering unit, directing projects, and ensuring quality standards. Responsibilities include business development, staff development, and organizational support.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the focal point for initial unit contact to Management, Project Managers (PM) and other internal constituents
- Define the scope of work for work proposals
- Direct/assign work to the unit to balance activities between work groups
- Maintain responsibility for the unit's quality and establish and enforce quality standards for the unit
- Accept unit's responsibility of budget and schedule for assigned projects
- Assign unit's Responsible Engineers (RE) and provide recommendation to the Client Engineering Manager of Lead Responsible Engineer (LRE) for unit led projects
- Responsible for the approval of engineering documents produced by the unit
- Certify design documents as required by state and local client and code requirements
- Lead proposal preparation with input for scope and budget to PMs
- Develop professional relationships with client counterparts
- Assist in marketing the unit's expertise and abilities to clients
- Identify and promote opportunities for site work
- Identify and promote training opportunities
- Utilize the review/approval process of deliverables as a technical training opportunity for staff
- Provide timely and appropriate performance feedback and coaching
- Promote professional development
- Support company policies and procedures
- Demonstrate technical leadership, providing resolution to technical issues either through own knowledge or by coordination with Subject Matter Experts
- Support the Client Engineering Manager in maintaining, updating, and executing Continuous Improvement Plans
- Supervise an Engineering Unit, discipline-specific, comprised of work group lead engineers and engineering staff
- Responsible for the assignment of engineering resources to projects
- Maintain short and long-range staffing projections based on work projections
- Approve timesheets and expense reports of direct reports
- Conduct unit's annual performance appraisals
- Support management in recruiting new employees
- Meet applied time goals set for position/division/discipline
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited university
- Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience including experience supporting the nuclear power industry
- 2+ years of leadership experience for Manager role
- PE License is required
- Ability to gain and maintain unescorted access at nuclear sites
- Experience working in a Nuclear Power Plant environment and familiarity with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) governing codes
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Strong technical writing skills and attention to detail
- Strong coordination and team building skills
