The Design Manager will lead the procurement process for design consultants and manage the design process through various phases until project completion. They will also ensure that design documentation meets applicable standards and manage design within budget parameters.
Responsibilities
- Lead the procurement process for design consultants, utilizing technical knowledge of design management and construction delivery process
- Manage the design process with the consultant and client through concept, schematic design, design development, detailed design, and construction phases
- Develop the Design Brief and any required client design deliverables to ensure design documentation meets applicable Australian Standards, Statutory requirements, and Building Code of Australia
- Consider innovative design options, materials, engineering solutions, and value for money initiatives, and review for practicality before making recommendations
- Consider the buildability and construction methodology of the proposed design and develop design documentation to ensure quality expectations are achievable
- Propose solutions to technical design issues or validate consultant proposals in line with standards
- Manage the design process within cost plan parameters and budgets, including trade budgets, design fees budgets, and design contingency
- Work with consultants and subcontractors, and undertake peer reviews to manage design development and document solutions
- Ensure that design completion meets project milestones and technical issues that impact buildability, procurement, resources, safety, or cost are identified early to reduce risk throughout the project
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in Engineering or Design roles on construction projects with proven success
- Relevant qualifications in Engineering, Architecture, Design, or a related discipline
- Strong market knowledge of design consultants and relevant subcontractors
- Knowledge of relevant Building Codes, Design Standards, and contractual requirements
