Sr. Design Manager, Chemistry / Materials - Liquid Cooling
Super Micro Computer 🇹🇼 Taoyuan City, Taiwan
Lead the strategic planning and execution of coolant-related initiatives, including the design of chemical blending processes and the establishment of in-house laboratory infrastructure. Act as the subject matter expert to ensure material compatibility and hardware reliability for AI data center liquid cooling deployment.
Responsibilities
- Strategic Project Leadership (End-to-End Ownership): Architect and lead the strategic planning, execution, and management of all coolant-related initiatives; serve as the primary owner for the material and coolant related tasks
- Process Engineering & SOP Development: Design, scale, and optimize chemical blending and dilution processes; establish rigorous Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure precise concentration, electronic-grade purity, and batch-to-batch consistency
- Quality Assurance & Lab Infrastructure: Define strict QC gate-keeping standards; establish and oversee the in-house laboratory to monitor critical parameters (dielectric strength, conductivity, pH) using precision instruments (e.g., ICP-MS, FTIR)
- Material Compatibility & Failure Analysis: Validate long-term interactions between coolants and infrastructure components; lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for any material degradation, corrosion, or system failures to ensure 100% hardware reliability
- Supply Chain & Strategic Sourcing: Qualify raw material suppliers, manage procurement of chemical concentrates, and ensure a resilient, cost-effective supply chain to support exponential AI data center growth
- Sustainability & EHS Compliance: Ensure all facilities comply with environmental regulations, proactively leading the industry transition toward PFAS-free and eco-friendly cooling solutions (REACH, EPA)
- Cross-Functional SME Leadership: Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) to bridge technical gaps between Thermal Engineering, Global Supply Chain, and Facility Operations to ensure seamless liquid cooling deployment
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related technical field
- Minimum 8 years of experience in chemical process engineering, semiconductor chemical delivery systems (CDS), or data center cooling infrastructure
- Proven track record in managing 'from-zero-to-one' facility setup or large-scale technical projects
- In-depth knowledge of heat transfer fluids (Dielectric fluids, PG/Water mixtures) and their chemical/physical properties
- Familiar with chemical analytical techniques (e.g., ICP-MS, Ion Chromatography, Viscometers)
- Exceptional project management skills with the ability to lead cross-functional teams under tight deadlines
- Strong problem-solving capability for complex failure analysis (FA)
- Proficiency in English and Mandarin for technical communication and vendor negotiation
