Junior UI/UX Designer (Remote Opportunity)

The designer will apply Human-Centered Design principles to create accessible, user-centric applications for a Department of Veterans Affairs project. Key tasks include developing wireframes and prototypes in Figma and ensuring all interfaces meet Section 508 accessibility standards.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Business Analysts, developers, and stakeholders to translate requirements into intuitive design solutions
- Design wireframes, mockups, and prototypes using tools such as Figma to communicate design intent
- Translate complex workflows into user-friendly, accessible interfaces
- Contribute to and maintain design systems, UI patterns, and documentation
- Conduct user research, usability testing, and analysis to inform design decisions
- Formulate research-driven questions to support indirect user discovery when direct access is limited
- Synthesize research insights into actionable design improvements
- Design applications in alignment with Section 508 accessibility standards and best practices
- Serve as a resource for accessibility guidance across teams, including developers and testers
- Support accessibility testing, audits, and remediation efforts
- Translate accessibility requirements and findings into clear, actionable guidance
- Work within Agile teams, incorporating iterative feedback from stakeholders and developers
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, HCI, or related field
- Minimum of 2 years of proven experience as a UI/UX Designer
- Strong understanding of Human-Centered Design (HCD) principles
- Demonstrated experience designing accessible interfaces and supporting Section 508 compliance
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and translate user needs into effective design solutions
- Proficiency in design and prototyping tools such as Figma
- Experience working in Agile environments with iterative development cycles
