Product Designer - Editor
Pencil Remote (🇬🇧 United Kingdom)
You will own the end-to-end design of the core editing platform, from strategy and problem framing to shipping production-ready UI. You will partner with engineering and product teams to rapidly iterate on AI-powered features that enhance user creation workflows.
Responsibilities
- Own a core area of the Pencil editing platform end-to-end, from problem framing and concept exploration to final UI and shipped product
- Partner closely with Product and Engineering to define and rapidly ship features that directly increase content generations and exports
- Design high-quality, production-ready interfaces for editing tools, relentlessly focused on improving speed and usability so users can create assets faster
- Expand the suite of creation tools across multiple formats (ads, images, video, email, display, etc.)
- Design and improve AI-powered editing workflows that feel clear, usable, and trustworthy, directly augmenting the user's creative output
- Ensure design intent is fully translated into development by working closely with engineers during implementation, reviewing builds, and iterating until the quality bar is met
- Conduct user research to identify meaningful problems, validate solutions, and continuously raise usability and clarity across the product
- Use and contribute to our design system, helping evolve patterns, components, and foundations as the product scales
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience designing digital products, ideally within SaaS or complex, workflow-driven editing and creation tools
- A strong portfolio that demonstrates end-to-end product thinking with a focus on speed, creation, and impact on output
- Builder mindset with a deep obsession for creating tools that help users produce content faster
- Deep craft sensibility and solid interaction and visual design skills to make creation tools feel powerful but simple
- Proven ability to work autonomously and demonstrate strong product intuition, knowing what features will increase generations and exports without over-researching
- High iteration tolerance and comfort with a "build and see what sticks" mode, happy to test, tweak, and evolve features rapidly based on usage
- Strong experience working closely with engineers and a proven ability to keep up with a large, fast-moving engineering team
- Highly proficient in Figma, using it fluently to explore ideas, communicate intent, and evolve design systems
- AI curiosity and comfort designing for AI-powered systems, interested in how AI augments creation and integrates into editing workflows
