Design Engineering Lead (Retail Displays), UK

The Design Engineering Lead will build and manage a global engineering function to ensure consistent, compliant, and high-performing delivery of retail fixtures. This role involves driving global engineering standards, optimizing technical processes, and partnering with cross-functional teams to deliver sustainable and feasible design solutions.
Responsibilities
- Build and Lead a Global Engineering Function: Establish a global engineering operating model supported by clear roles, standards, and workflows
- Ensure Global Engineering Support for All Permanent Fixture Requests: Provide every market with strong, centralized engineering support for permanent fixture development
- Improve Control, Quality and Efficiency Across Engineering Processes: Review and optimize key processes such as CAPA, prototyping, and engineering approvals
- Embed Engineering Early in Client Conversations: Partner with Account Management and Project teams to ensure Engineering is consulted at the earliest stage in planning and briefing
- Adapt and Develop Fixture & Display Designs for Regional Markets: Lead the adaptation of global fixture designs for regional requirements, especially across India and APAC
- Champion Sustainability, Feasibility and Compliance: Ensure all engineering outputs align with the clients' sustainability goals and global compliance standards
Requirements
- Strong design engineering background with experience across materials including wood, metal, plastics, and digital components
- Skilled in CAD, SolidWorks, and PDM; ability to sketch and communicate concepts clearly
- Experience working with global retailers and familiarity with regional guidelines (ideally India / APAC)
- Strong understanding of retail fixture engineering, permanent display development, and installation requirements
- Proven ability to lead technical processes, create frameworks, and drive operational consistency
- Highly organised, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple projects in a fast-paced rollout environment
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-cultural teams across multiple time zones
- Passionate about quality, innovation, and delivering best-in-class technical solutions
