Sentinel Design Engineering - Thermodynamics Section Manager (18435)

The manager will lead a team of thermal analysis engineers, responsible for all managerial tasks relevant to thermodynamic analysis while dedicating 80% of time to thermal analysis engineering as directed by the program IPT Lead. Responsibilities also include establishing communications, scheduling, and technical reviews, alongside functional home room support covering recruiting, staffing, and performance management for approximately 20% of the time.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of thermal analysis engineers and manage thermodynamic analysis
- Establish, maintain, and facilitate communications, tasking, scheduling, and technical reviews with each individual contributor’s execution lead
- Provide technical expertise and analytical prowess in thermal analysis, including Thermal Protection System (TPS) design/sizing, Transient Heat Transfer Simulations, and Active Cooling Analysis
- Recruiting, staffing, retaining talent, weekly team meetings, bi-weekly 1:1 meetings, and holding performance review discussions
- Supporting relevant Northrop Grumman Defense Systems Community of Practice
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) discipline and 8 years of experience; or Master's degree with 6 years of experience
- Experience in a technical leadership/management role
- Experience in writing and presenting technical content
- Must have an active DoD Secret or higher clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation)
- MUST have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with adjacent disciplines (e.g. systems engineering, aerodynamics, stress analysis, design, test) in a highly integrated team environment
- Experience in programming and use of MATLAB (or equivalent) for analysis and data manipulation
- Experience with finite element method or finite difference method thermal analysis software (Thermal Desktop, and Ansys)
