The intern will assist in the design of roadway construction projects, which includes designing horizontal and vertical alignment, roadway cross sections, and preparing preliminary and final construction project plans. Responsibilities also involve participating in and documenting engineering decisions, attending project meetings, and performing field inspections.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design of roadway construction projects
  • Be responsible for assisting in the review of work of a broad scope, complexity, and diversity
  • Design horizontal alignment, vertical alignment, roadway cross sections and other design features
  • Prepare preliminary and final construction project plans
  • Participate in and document engineering decisions, write special provisions and keep project correspondence files accurate and up to date

Requirements

  • Must be a three-fourths time student in good standing majoring in a discipline or field related to the work to be assigned
  • Preferred: A second semester sophomore majoring in engineering
  • Experience in the use of Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD)
  • Must be able to work at least 10 hours a week when classes are in session, 15 hours a week preferred
