The Project Design Engineering Manager directs the timely and accurate completion of technical design packages for customer projects, ensuring they meet contract specifications. This role involves managing and mentoring a team of project engineers, providing technical guidance, and ensuring all engineering output stays on schedule and within budget.

Responsibilities

  • Deliverable Management: Direct the completion of technical design packages for customer projects, ensuring they are accurate and meet contract specifications
  • Team Supervision: Manage and mentor a team of project engineers, providing technical guidance and conducting regular performance reviews
  • Process Adherence: Implement established engineering processes, design review checkpoints, and documentation standards across the team
  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Work closely with project managers, drafting teams, and field staff to resolve design issues and clarify technical requirements
  • Schedule & Resource Alignment: Monitor team workload to ensure engineering milestones support permitting, procurement, and construction deadlines
  • Technical Review: Lead project-level design reviews and perform quality assurance checks on all team deliverables
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and recommend improvements to design tools and workflows to increase team efficiency
  • Technical Support: Serve as a resource for the team regarding design decisions, technical problem-solving, and code compliance

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or a related Engineering field
  • 5–7+ years of experience in engineering design, with 2+ years in a lead or supervisory capacity
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering engineered design packages for construction or industrial projects
  • Strong ability to coordinate multi-disciplinary tasks and manage team priorities
  • Solid understanding of engineering documentation, industry codes, and QA/QC procedures
  • Strong communication and technical problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with CAD platforms and project tracking software
