
The role involves defining user needs through various documentation like journey maps and service blueprints, and planning/conducting usability testing to inform design decisions. Designers will also create and iterate on user flows, wireframes, and prototypes while ensuring designs meet accessibility and responsive standards.
Responsibilities
- Define and communicate user needs through journey maps, service blueprints, and experience models
- Plan and conduct usability testing and research activities
- Design and iterate user flows, wireframes, and prototypes
- Translate complex service requirements into clear, accessible user experiences
- Ensure designs meet accessibility standards and responsive design principles
- Collaborate with interaction designers, researchers, and product managers
- Contribute to and maintain design documentation
- Support knowledge transfer and design capability building across project teams
Requirements
- Proficiency in Figma or equivalent design tooling
- Strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end UX work
- Familiarity with the GOV.UK Design System and GDS service design standards
- Understanding of WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards and inclusive design principles
- Experience working within agile, multidisciplinary delivery teams
- Ability to communicate design rationale clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
