
Product Designer
S&c Electric Company 🇨🇦 Toronto, Ontario, Canada
The Product Designer will design custom versions of standard products and provide customer support. They will also prepare design models using CAD software and collaborate with engineering and shop teams.
Responsibilities
- Design custom versions of standard products for customers and provide customer support
- Independently prepare design models and drawings using 3D CAD software and maintain design models, drawings, and bills of material using design management software
- Partner and collaborate with the shop to review and resolve any issues as they arise for standard and custom products
- Work with engineering to source prototype parts, make prototype assemblies and assist with prototype testing and evaluation
- Support supplier quality and sourcing projects, which include PPAP
- Support continuous improvement initiatives in a Lean manufacturing environment
Requirements
- Post Secondary education in Mechanical Engineering Technology
- Minimum 3 years of design experience within a manufacturing environment
- Experience with 2D/3D CAD software (preferably Solid Edge and Microstation) and Product Data Management Systems such as 3DX or Dassault equivalent
- Experience designing mechanical parts, including castings, sheet metal parts, and machined parts
- Knowledge on inspecting parts and assemblies using basic methods such as visual inspection, calipers, and gauges
- Technical skills - interpreting drawings, drafting, familiarity with GD&T is required
- Exposure to Project Management an asset
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with all levels within the organization
- Knowledge of basic mechanical engineering principles, manufacturing processes and material properties
- Some exposure to power engineering principles, basic understanding of electric utility distribution systems an asset
