The UI/UX Designer will collaborate with stakeholders to create user-centered design solutions and lead design sessions to gather requirements. They will also create wireframes and prototypes for data products and ensure designs meet accessibility and responsive design standards.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Coast Guard stakeholders to translate mission needs into user-centered design solutions
- Lead design sessions, user interviews, and usability testing to gather requirements and feedback
- Create wireframes, interactive prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups for data visualization, dashboards, and workflow tools
- Ensure designs align with Coast Guard and DHS digital standards, accessibility requirements (Section 508), and responsive design principles
- Partner with front-end developers and data engineers to ensure design fidelity through implementation
- Contribute to the establishment of design system components and visual identity standards for the USCG Data & Analytics platform
- Advocate for user-centric design within an agile environment and help mature the overall product design process
- Develop, implement, and support solutions curated and deployed with Power BI
- Map workflows, user paths, create storyboards, wireframes, mockups, low and high-fidelity prototypes and write UI specifications to support development across multiple platforms
- Design graphics, icons and other visual elements as necessary
- Evaluate designs using user-centric design techniques such as UI reviews and cognitive walkthroughs
- Maintain an awareness of current trends in technology design and usability and share this information across multiple teams
- Participate in working groups and/or meetings with application stakeholders to discuss user requirements and/or present wireframes and mockups
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in design, human-computer interaction, human factors engineering, computer science, or related field and five (5)+ years of experience
- 3+ years of experience in UI/UX design, UX strategy, preferably within a government or mission-driven environment
- Experience delivering products that work across a range of platforms
- Demonstrated proficiency with design and prototyping tools (e.g. Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, etc.)
- Solid understanding of modern web design, accessibility standards, and responsive frameworks
- Strong communication skills and ability to work closely with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
