Design Engineering Intern

The intern will support the Engineering team in the design, development, and testing of a two-piece size 8 contact. Responsibilities include assisting in design modeling, conducting analyses, collaborating on prototypes, and documenting test results.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the design and modeling of the interface between the two contact halves.
- Conduct Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and participate in design reviews.
- Collaborate with internal teams and vendors to produce prototype components.
- Test prototypes for separation force, electrical performance, and other key metrics.
- Document test results, analyze findings, and recommend design improvements.
- Perform cost/benefit and manufacturability analyses to determine production feasibility.
- Support the creation of technical documentation and design calculations.
- Ensure all work aligns with quality, safety, and engineering standards.
- Uphold Positronicโs standards of integrity, quality, and operational excellence.
- Identify hazards in the workplace and report them to management and/or the safety coordinator.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Management, Engineering Physics, or Physics.
- Physical: Regular walking, standing, sitting, climbing, bending, and crouching. May lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Internship Time: This internship will take place in 2026 from May 18th to August 7th.
- Working Conditions: Work is performed primarily in a production and office environment with exposure to machinery, moderate noise, and standard shop materials.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in CAD modeling and technical drawing interpretation.
- Ability to perform and document engineering analyses (FMEA, tolerance, cost, etc).
- Effective communication and teamwork skills for cross-department collaboration.
- Attention to detail and commitment to precision in technical work.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
