The Graphic Designer I creates official college visual communications that fulfill the informational, marketing, and promotional needs of the college. This includes designing and producing official college print and digital publications while collaborating with clients and editors.
Responsibilities
- Research, design and produce visual communications to market and promote the college via print and digital media
- Work with clients and editors in the development of visual communications that meet shared goals for style, message, target audience, and functionality
- Establish priorities and track project workflow utilizing departmental project management software
- Write printing specifications and prepare all necessary digital files, documentation and final layouts for in-house print shop and outside vendors
- Ensure that final artwork meets the specs, that written instructions to outside vendors are accurate, and that the project meets the deadline
- Consult with in-house print shop and outside vendors on the matter of quality reproduction in approving printing proofs, attending press runs and signing off on all jobs produced
- Continually advance creative and technical design skills to stay up-to-date in the communications industry
- Consult with staff on any creative and technical matters pertaining to print and digital design
Requirements
- Minimum Associate Degree in Graphic Design or related field required
- BA or BFA in communication design or related field, formal graphic design training including all aspects of graphic design (typography, two dimensional design, color theory, etc) preferred
- 2 to 3 years work experience in design and graphic production techniques required
- Computer training on the Macintosh operating system and its applications required
- Previous experience working in graphic design preferred; print design experience and pre-press and print production experience to manage projects to completion preferred
- Understanding of network operating system preferred
