Product Designer (18-month contract)

The Product Designer will develop new cookie products and manage projects from ideation to production runs. They will also liaise with various teams to ensure successful product development and trials.

Responsibilities

  • Develops new products with Marketing direction, Innovation sessions or creates independently
  • Leads in scaling, baking, labeling and packaging of lab & customer samples; independently creating TVC for formulation record and accurate costing
  • Working with Purchasing, suggests needs for new ingredients needed for creation of new formulations, providing desired target cost
  • Using CAD program, works with design team to translate lab cutters and drawings into cookie dies for production, optimizing die capabilities
  • Understands cookie dough and production line capabilities
  • Manages projects from ideation to production runs
  • Manages die supplier relationship, design specs, & die library
  • Works with Production on new concept/processing methods ensuring 'critical to quality' processes are understood by manufacturing
  • Liases directly with Marketing Design & Product Managers, delivering updates on progress of expected customer samples and plant trials
  • Works with Technical Services in conducting plant trials and FPR's, runs pretrial meetings, keeping detailed records on plant trial production details, outcomes, including labour head counts and suitability to production
  • Takes ownership of personal project load; flexible to changes in workload
  • Backs up PD on other production lines, taking ownership of samples and plant trials during teammate absences

Requirements

  • Degree in Food Science, Chef's or Bakers Red Seal
  • 5 to 7 years of bakery or food manufacturing experience
  • CAD program knowledge
  • Good understanding of GMP, HACCP, (BRC, SQF) and Food Allergens
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Good working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, delegate, and follow up
  • Ability to lead, work independently, and in a team environment
  • Reliable transportation
