Exhibitions Graphic Designer
The Woodruff Arts Center • Atlanta, United States of America 🇺🇸
The Exhibitions Graphic Designer will lead in the design and production of all exhibition graphics, including large-scale environmental graphics and visitor interactives. They will oversee contract graphics installers and ensure quality control of the final product.
Responsibilities
- Conceptualize design for exhibitions, including clear hierarchies of information
- Iterate and present graphic design concepts for graphic identity of exhibitions
- Accepting of and responsive to feedback during the design phase
- Design research
- Work within a production schedule to return edits under deadline
- Work on projects with overlapping timelines
- Maintain organized files, including version histories and naming conventions
- Responsible for updating individual museum labels and panels within the permanent collection when needed
- Follow museum style guides and maintain consistency in format
- Responsible for overseeing contract graphics installers onsite, communicating the job specifics, and quality control of the final product
- Scheduling graphic installation in coordination with the overall production schedule
- Join the Graphics Technician to physically install some wall vinyl letters and produce and install graphic labels where needed
Requirements
- 3-5 years of professional experience with the application of environmental graphics including cut vinyl, scotch print, and print to substrate techniques
- Well-organized, detail-oriented, able to juggle multiple projects, and highly respectful of deadlines
- Expert knowledge in typography and typesetting, familiar with proofreader’s marks
- Expert knowledge in Mac Platform: Adobe CS Master Collection (complete suite), Microsoft Office
- Professionalism and punctuality
- Sketchup, Vectorworks and other CAD software is a plus, but not a requirement
- Experience in large-scale environmental or architectural graphic design for print and outdoor signage; exhibition graphics installation experience preferred
- 3-5 years of experience at a museum, agency, studio, or in-house design department is required
- Undergraduate degree in graphic design is required
- Ability to effectively present information, general communication skills, responsiveness, understanding and accepting of feedback
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
- Ability to work within a set budget per project
- Ability to lift 10–20 pounds and climb ladders as needed
