The Product Designer is responsible for designing, developing, and improving products while ensuring effective communication with customers. They will also direct the building and testing of prototypes to meet customer requirements from conception to production.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a positive role model consistent with Polo’s corporate culture
  • Operates within specific deadlines, schedules and requirements
  • Uses computer design software for pattern making
  • Origins and/or develops product design concepts from client requirements or as possible proprietary items
  • Analyzes various design requirements and recommends possible solutions or alternate constructions
  • Uses customer’s requirements, samples, prints, etc., to estimate a product's manufacturing cost
  • Uses industrial processes and standards as well as new technology to build quality prototypes
  • Works with the Quality Manager to establish test requirements and develops and directs the testing of new product prototypes
  • Maintains internal contact with production personnel and external contact with customers
  • Works with plant quality control and customer’s quality department to test out theories or findings
  • Writes detailed instructions to indicate how a product is to be manufactured
  • Attends seminars, trade shows, and other manufacturing facilities
  • Travels to Polo sites as needed to create prototypes and assist with startup in production
  • Works with cross functional teams during the project phase and in the transition to production
  • Ability to flex the work schedule when required to meet customer deadlines and business needs
  • Assist in sales presentations, customer internal visits and product design meetings

Requirements

  • 2+ years manufacturing experience or 4-year degree in textile design, engineering, manufacturing or a related field
  • Industrial/home sewing experience a plus or educational equivalent
  • Textile/soft goods design and creative problem-solving skills
  • Practical experience using computer design software for pattern making
  • Proactive
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Strong team player who interacts well with others
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to work extended hours as needed and possess the ability to see a project through to completion
