Find Work
"Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works."
— Steve Jobs
The Senior UI/UX Designer will design, develop, and deliver responsive web application services for a complex digital marketplace for the DoD. Responsibilities include organizing the web application’s structure, creating intuitive interfaces, and ensuring accessibility compliance.
Responsibilities
- Organize the web application’s structure and navigation (information architecture), map out step-by-step user journeys, and create wireframes
- Produce simple, intuitive, and beautiful high-fidelity mockups and clickable prototypes
- Comprehend advanced technical concepts and constraints and translate them into feasible UX
- Establish and maintain a modular design system (components, patterns, and reusable design tokens — e.g., colors, spacing, typography) aligned to responsive best practices
- Drive accessibility from the start (Section 508/WCAG 2.2 AA), including audits and remediation plans
- Partner closely with product and engineering to see designs through to implementation (likely in React); provide dev-ready specs and assets
- Run rapid usability tests, synthesize insights, and iterate designs based on evidence and stakeholder input
- Document interaction patterns, empty/error states, and edge-case behaviors for workflow-heavy screens and forms
- Conduct design QA in staging/preview environments; file clear tickets and acceptance criteria for fixes
- Collaborate on data-visualization needs (dashboards/metrics) with clear, actionable visual hierarchies
- Plan and manage a part-time cadence (~10–20 hrs/week for first 2 months; ~6 hrs/week for 6 months; ~1 hr/week for 10 months), communicating risks, trade-offs, and timelines
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional work experience as a UX/UI Designer
- Experience designing complex, workflow-heavy web applications
- Experience simplifying multi-step processes into intuitive, low-friction UI
- Experience following designs through the full lifecycle — from concept and prototype to live application
- Experience creating information architecture, user flows, wireframes, high-fidelity UI, and interactive prototypes (e.g., Figma)
- Experience establishing/maintaining a component library and reusable design tokens; familiarity with design handoff tools
- Knowledge of React front-end constraints (state, componentization, responsive layout) to inform feasible designs
- Knowledge of accessibility standards (Section 508/WCAG 2.2 AA) and practical testing methods
- Ability to partner with engineers and write dev-ready specs, edge-case definitions, and acceptance criteria
- Ability to conduct and synthesize usability research and translate findings into iterations
- Ability to collaborate within Agile ceremonies (e.g., backlog refinement, sprint reviews) and manage design backlog
- Experience collaborating with stakeholders of varying technical and design backgrounds — from non-technical decision makers to developers — and translating complex design concepts into clear, actionable visuals and explanations
Key Skills
- Experience as a React/TypeScript developer
- Experience designing enterprise/Government Tech SaaS
- Experience with ServiceNow’s default styling configurations and/or UI Builder
- Ability to design effective data visualizations (tables, filters, charts) for operational dashboards
- Experience with federal digital service standards
- Ability to produce concise UX microcopy and content design for clarity and trust
- Excellent collaboration skills and the ability to work in a team environment
- Experience supporting the Department of Defense or other federal agencies
- Knowledge of procurement/acquisition domain concepts (DoD or federal) and secure/government environments
