Hybrid Contract Senior
A Senior User Experience Designer role for a medical devices industry client, focusing on designing user interface solutions for surgical robots.
Responsibilities
- Maintaining and/or improving user experience reducing usability risks for patients and surgical staff, improving usability workflows, and adhering to our brand guidelines
- Defining the Digital User Interface, implementing the Surgical Operating Unit’s Design system for complex medical devices in the Surgical Operating Unit’s product portfolio
- Participating in research activities to identify user needs/requirements and translating those findings, insights into design solutions
- Participating in decision making on product features and functionality partnering with Product Management, Engineering and the Research & Technology teams
- Working with agile teams to collaborate closely with software engineers, copywriters and UX designers
- Participating in concept definition for new products and platforms using “systems thinking” and user centered design methodologies
- Conceptualizing and visualizing product designs and physical interactions using Figma, mocking up digital prototypes using Figma or Principal
- Creating, and improving wireframes, prototypes, style guides, user flows, as well as effectively communicating your interaction ideas using Figma, Miro and PowerPoint
- Creating detailed final design documentation and support for software engineering handoffs and for design requirements within other shared platforms (Jama, Jira, etc.)
- Developing ideas based on design thinking, user research, heuristic principles, and accessibility standards
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in UX Design, or related design field with relevant or equivalent experience or known certificate program with related bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a UX Design role, 2 years’ experience in medical device or related industry preferred
- 2 years demonstrated experience in the capacity as a User Experience lead for new product development
- Experienced in all phases of the product development process - from research to concept development to front end development with clear and compelling visual communication, prototype continuously, test designs with users, translate results back into the design process
- Highly motivated self-starter able to achieve results with minimal oversight
- Experience in design user experience interfaces on a device or a large system is preferred
- Experience in managing your own project and the ability to seamlessly switch between big picture thinking and product-level details
- Hands-on experience creating wireframes, prototypes, storyboards, user flows, etc. with problem solving mindset
- Experience working in agile teams or in a scrum development process
- Be open to receiving objective criticism, defending your idea, and improving upon it
- Supporting design and development of user interfaces working with Industrial designers, UX Architecture designers and software developers and communicating design intent to engineering, software, requirements, and product management functions
- Experience Creating proof of concept models that effectively communicate design intent and demonstrate product potential
- Supporting and guiding the product labeling in creation of images and technical documentation such as User manuals, IFUs and Quick Reference Guides, instructional help content
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong creative, analytical, and problem-solving, technical judgement, leadership, and interpersonal skills
- Effectively visually communicate and present design vision, research needs, concepts, detailed designs both verbally and visually
- Develop collaborative working relationships with a range of functions including, but not limited to R&D, Marketing, Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain functions
- Experience using design tools such as Figma, Principal, and Miro
- A plus is understanding of basic front-end languages: HTML5, CSS3 JavaScript
- A bonus is to be familiar with relevant quality regulations (21 CFR Part 820.30), human factors/usability engineering standards (IEC 62366-1, ANSI HE75), risk management (ISO 14971), and FDA guidance
