Graphic Designer

The Graphic Designer performs moderately complex to complex graphic and multimedia design for publishing audit reports and other agency content. This role involves coordinating with agency staff to align content with audience needs and ensuring deliverables are prepared for publishing.
Responsibilities
- Planning, designing, and developing graphics and interactive media materials as part of a comprehensive communications effort.
- Developing and drafting documents with a graphical or multimedia focus such as brochures, reports, photographs, videos, or audio content.
- Designing video content for training or outreach.
- Creating and maintaining web pages and intranet sites.
- Maintaining an archive of electronic production files, artwork, and images.
- Presenting mockups for approval and formally presenting final products to agency staff.
- Troubleshooting system hardware and software problems.
- Coordinating printing needs to ensure quality and cost-effective printing.
- Organizing and coordinating the drafting of agency documents that are suitable for distribution on the Web.
- Translating professional jargon or complex language into language that is suitable for a specific audience.
- Maintaining liaison with executive staff to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of agency documents published on the Web.
- Editing and approving drafts of agency documents to help generate polished and professional finished products.
- Performing related work as assigned.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in Graphic Design, Communications, Journalism, English, or a related field.
- Experience and/or certifications may be substituted for education.
- Knowledge of graphic design technology and trends, photography, videography, and strong visual design skills.
- Skill in working independently or as part of a team to enhance deliverables and develop innovative formats.
- Skill in communicating complex ideas in a visual format so they can be understood by an uninformed reader.
- Skill in using appropriate grammar and punctuation.
- Skill in effective oral and written communication.
- Skill in using standard computer word processing software programs, including Microsoft Word.
- Knowledge of legal issues, such as copyright, privacy, and website accessibility.
- One year of experience in creating graphics or preparing documents (preferred).
- Knowledge of digital publishing and CMS (content management systems), preferably Microsoft SharePoint (preferred).
- Knowledge of Adobe software (including Acrobat Professional, Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop) and/or other graphic design programs (preferred).
- Skill in using Windows and various operating systems and web browsers, including Mac operating systems, Safari, Firefox, Chrome, and Android (preferred).
