Lead a human-centered approach to information design and create clear architecture diagrams and technical illustrations. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance the usability and discoverability of documentation.
Responsibilities
- Lead a holistic, human-centered approach to information design. Advocating for the user throughout the documentation lifecycle
- Create and maintain clear, comprehensive architecture diagrams and technical illustrations to support admin and developer documentation on help.okta.com and developer.okta.com
- Combine design and data by developing and iterating on wireframes, prototypes, and user flows to visualize and communicate design solutions that are both functional and delightful documentation experiences
- Find creative ways to continuously learn from customers and users by conducting user research, including usability testing, surveys, and interviews, to understand user behaviors, pain points, and needs related to their documentation experience
- Collaborate with technical writers to create UX best practices for images and content creation, ensuring consistency and clarity across all documentation deliverables
- Craft user-centered artifacts and end-to-end journeys to align teams contributing to documentation around the broader user experience strategy
- Partner with product and engineering teams to align documentation UX with the overall Okta product experience
- Analyze usage data and feedback to identify areas for improvement and measure the effectiveness of design changes on documentation platforms
Requirements
- 7+ years of design experience
- Proficient in Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, and / or similar design tools
- Expertise with design systems and codebases to maintain consistency across projects
- Proven experience designing graphics and UX for complex web applications or documentation platforms
- Ability to interpret user behavior data, analytics (e.g., Google Analytics, Tableau), and raw data into optimized designs
- Knowledge of A/B testing and how to use data to validate hypotheses
- Experience in designing large-scale projects or enterprise-level products that require long-term thinking
- Strong interpersonal skills to work closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, engineers, developers, and content creators
- Ability to translate complex data or insights into clear, actionable design decisions
- Deep empathy for users, understanding their pain points and needs
- A mindset focused on solving real problems through innovative design solutions
- Strong understanding of how to gather feedback, iterate on designs, and refine solutions based on user testing
- Experience with Agile methodologies or other iterative design processes
Key Skills
- Experience working with technical documentation teams or a strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities within the documentation space
- Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) and documentation publishing tools
- Knowledge of SEO best practices for content discoverability
- Knowledge of the user experience for developer tools, APIs, or identity and access management solutions
