Technical Product Designer - Soft Goods

The Technical Product Designer will create and refine product concepts while collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop prototypes. They will also conduct materials research and ensure compliance with brand standards.
Responsibilities
- Create and refine product concepts in line with brand strategy and design language.
- Produce technical drawings, renderings, and illustrations using Adobe and other design tools.
- Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and suppliers to develop prototypes and evaluate feasibility.
- Research and recommend suitable materials based on durability, performance, and cost criteria.
- Conduct and coordinate material testing for quality, compliance, and performance.
- Maintain a library of approved materials, finishes, and suppliers.
- Ensure all designs adhere to the companyβs established visual identity and brand design standards.
- Review prototypes and production samples for compliance with branding and design intent.
- Partner with marketing and creative teams to align product aesthetics with overall brand storytelling.
- Work closely with engineering to ensure manufacturability and cost-effectiveness of designs.
- Partner with operations to ensure materials are available, compliant, and sustainable where possible.
- Participate in supplier reviews and production readiness checks.
Requirements
- Bachelorβs degree in Industrial Design, Materials Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3β5 years of experience in industrial design, product development, or materials engineering.
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and CAD tools (SolidWorks, Rhino, or similar).
- Strong knowledge of material properties, manufacturing processes, and testing protocols.
- Experience working with brand compliance standards and design systems.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Key Skills
- Experience in consumer products, lifestyle goods, or soft goods design.
- Knowledge of material sourcing and safety compliance standards.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, iterative design environment.
- Strong visual design sensibility with a practical, production-minded approach.
